Oceanus

2026 | Oil on canvas | 48 x 60 in

Oceanus reinterprets Pietro Bracci’s monumental figure at Rome’s Trevi Fountain through a tightly cropped composition that removes the surrounding architecture and spectacle. The broad torso, flowing beard, and diagonal drapery fill the canvas, allowing physical mass and structure to carry the work. Subtle tonal transitions and layered glazes give the marble the warmth and immediacy of flesh, while the dark ground heightens the figure’s scale and authority. Detached from its familiar setting, Oceanus becomes a study of power held in stillness—weighty, controlled, and intensely present.
