Elena Frost
Elena Frost is a contemporary figurative painter living and working in Upstate South Carolina. She earned her BFA from California State University, Fresno in 2004 and returned to a full-time studio practice in 2024.
Working primarily in oil, Frost creates large-scale, tightly cropped paintings drawn from classical and figurative sculpture. Her current body of work, Flesh of Statues, uses a restrained monochromatic palette, dramatic cropping, and close attention to form, surface, and light. By removing faces and much of the original sculptural context, the paintings shift attention away from narrative and toward the physical structure and presence of the figure.
Frost’s work has been recognized through juried exhibitions and awards, including an Honorable Mention in Metro Montage XXVI at the Marietta Cobb Museum of Art.
